Samsung-Fingerprint-scanner-patent |
The awkward placement of the fingerprint reader at the back of the Samsung Galaxy S8 & Note 8 is indeed a deal breaker for many, however, it looks like that’s about to change. According to a report from Galaxyclub.nl, the South Korean smartphone manufacturer has filed for a patent for a pressure-sensitive in-display fingerprint reader.
While it is being speculated that the new pressure-sensitive in-display fingerprint reader might be featured in the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, Samsung’s marketing manager went on record tweeting that the “tech probably won’t be ready for retail by then,” which suggests that the feature might be introduced with the Galaxy Note 9.
It is also worth mentioning that Samsung had previously developed an optical fingerprint reader that was tested on the Galaxy Note 8’s display, however, it turned out to be imperfect due to uneven screen brightness.
